An Out of the Box Hamper Solution Delivered for Just In Time Gourmet

Who doesn’t like receiving gifts? What’s more, gifts packed full of foodie treats? Just In Time Gourmet’s products and hampers are truly divine and yes, we’re speaking from experience!

We had the privilege of working with this family business and owners Jodee and Justin Wearne to redesign and develop their new website. The existing site had been tarnished with black hat SEO and outsourcing by a local provider so Jodee and Justin very cautiously handed their baby over to us.

The new responsive website showcases some exciting features.

Just In Time Gourmet Home Page

Our primary goal was to promote Just In Time Gourmet’s 3 core services: Individual Products, Hampers and Create Your Own Hampers. This was achieved by creating a primary and secondary navigation, you’ll see that the site actually has a quite a few pages but these have been streamlined into tidy menus all accessible from the home page. Customers are able to shop for one of these services or combine all three. The process of this is key and is explained quite simply on the Create Your Own Hamper page.

We cleverly transformed our cart and checkout system and created a super cart (My Order) that allows custom packages to be created. Customers can purchase individual hampers, customise Just In Time Gourmet hampers or create their own hampers. These orders are collated all within the My Order page and makes the ordering process nice and easy.

Also unique to Just In Time Gourmet’s checkout is the ability to send orders to numerous delivery addresses. This means that I can spoil myself with some truffles and create my own hamper with only the products that my family like in Melbourne – no olives, no crackers and definitely no turkish delights! The bonus is that my truffles will be delivered for free! because free shipping applies to orders within Perth Metro. Win win!

Ah, the beauty of Tentacle! It has the wonderful ability of adapting to our clients needs and means we can create the perfect solution for the day-to-day operation of any business. It makes life so easy and earns us lots of points – it’s out of the box hampers made easy!

We think you’ll agree, the website is beautifully designed and totally functional. We’d love to hear your thoughts but most of all we encourage you to visit the site, who knows this maybe the perfect gift for the next birthday, thank you or get well gift that you need to buy.

Force Technology Launches Vibrant New Website With Second Breakfast

Force Technology International is one of the biggest distributors of mobile accessories in Australia, supplying brands like Jawbone, Lifeproof, Kensington and Mossimo to retailers including Telstra, Optus, Virgin and JB Hi-Fi.

Having evolved their business and culture over the last 10 years, their website did not match the company they had become and was in need of redeveloping to bring it up to date.

The new site is cleaner and more colourful, with a site structure that makes it much easier to find out about the company, their brands and places to buy products.

And for LaunchCake? 10am on a Monday is a bit too early for cake (even for us) so we opted for LaunchBake with a selection of treats from New Norcia bakery.

Chocolate and Red Wine Cake is in the Running for ‘Best LaunchCake Yet’

The Black Truffle Clever Starfish Launch Cake Photos

There’s no official ceremony or voting mechanisms, but this award is probably the most prestigious in the world of Cake1. Dubbed the Plantagecake2 (Plan-tadj-eh-cake) in homage to the generous dosage of Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon, this two-tier circle of chocolately goodness was baked to celebrate the launch of The Black Truffle’s new website. The recipe is from Pantry in Suburbia (Thanks Jacqui!) and since we didn’t have any fig jam handy, ours had a thick layer of ganache sandwiched in the middle like a giant chocolate creme Oreo.

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 generous cup plain flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

1) Preheat the oven to 160°C, and non stick your tin (I just gave my silicon mould a spray with canola oil).

2) In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until it forms ribbons. Add the eggs and beat well, then the red wine and vanilla. At this point, the cake will look a little split, but its all good, it’ll come together!

3) Sift the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and cinnamon together, and add to the wet ingredients. Mix gently until combined, then spread batter into the greased tin/mould.

4) Slice up a pear into half cm slices, and arrange them gently on top of the batter in any pattern you like.

5) Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean. Cool in pan for about 10 minutes, then flip out of pan and cool the rest of the way on a cooling rack. If you’re using a silicon mould, wait until its completely cooled before turning the cake out.

6) Warm up a couple of tablespoons of fig jam in a small saucepan, and brush it over the cooled cake. If you wish to add ganache just make sure the cake is fully cooled! The cake does not rise a huge amount, so I would make 2 cakes if you’re looking to layer them.

Footnotes

1. The world of Cake is where Starfishland exists, and is totally not made up. Like the Internet, most of its inhabitants are feline.

2. Actually it was just me that called it that. I’m going to roll with it anyway…

Big Sky Entertainment WA – Looks a million dollars!

Big Sky Entertainment WA, a leading Western Australian entertainment booking agency, required a rejuvenated website. When I look back at this project I am reminded of the Million Dollar Makeover car that I’ve seen driving around town lately. Just look at the website’s before and after shots.

The website was originally designed by Clever Starfish in 2010 and required a fresh new look after 3 years. We focused on simplifying the content to clearly communicate Big Sky’s core business, events, and encourage more enquiries by restructuring the entertainment pages. Rachel improved the general appearance of the website and went to town on the home page with a classy looking banner manager and feature areas.

Uli also transformed the original Tentacle catalogue by creating some great filters, which make it so easy for clients to find the perfect act for any event.

We celebrated this launch with a delicious and suitably Orange cake from the Pearl of Highgate. OMG, this was so moist!

A Truffle-infused One Page Site

We’re pretty into food here in Starfishland, so when The Black Truffle contacted us about doing a new website for their gourmet delicatessen in North Fremantle, we were keen as honey basil mustard. The store has become a regular destination for locals and passers-by, with fresh coffee, lunchables, Italian pantry staples, salads, antipasto, cured meats, cheeses, and take-home meals prepared by real Italian mamas. The rustic food aesthetic was carried through to the website design, with warm tones, wood and hessian textures, contrasted with the simple black and white of their logo.

The site uses a ‘one page’ layout, which requires some tricky development techniques in order to be optimised for search engines as well as be easily editable in the WordPress content management system. While appearing as one long page in the browser, each section is actually a separate page in the eyes of search engines.

The catering section includes an inquiry form that gets submitted seamlessly without reloading the page.

Ormina Tours launches online holding page for offline adventures

Ormina Tours is releasing a new range of luxury European travel itineraries and wanted a simple website to introduce visitors to their brand, plus let them find out more about their upcoming tours. This WordPress-powered holding page gives them the ability to display enticing imagery and several tour brochures along with text content.

Venice, anyone?

Given the amazing European destinations Ormina has in store for their guests, LaunchCake was a selection of pastries and baked goods from French patisserie Jean Pierre Sancho. The chocolate gateau was easily the most popular item, with it’s crunchy base and mousse-like top section earning it more than a few return spoonfuls.

3…2…1…Lift off for Outta Space!

Outta Space is a self storage company located in Murray Bridge, South Australia. They have been operating for over 3 years and decided that it was time to have a online presence. Although we are based in a different state they were happy to work with us over email, Skype, DropBox and the phone to create a website that was “out of this world” (pun intended!).

Together we decided that a WordPress site was the perfect solution for their needs and we set our sights on creating a design to match their professional and approachable team.

Whilst they decided a fully responsive site was not necessary for them at this time, they still wanted their site to work on a phone, so we created them a site that re-sizes nicely to fit a portrait mobile layout.

The alien spaceship was a cute way for our starfishes to have a bit of fun with the design and programming on the home page and the 404 error page ! We love brands with character…

After we completed the design, they decided to also outsource their content entry to us too. This is a useful option for clients who would like a little help to reach a specific launch deadline. The test site was then delivered with all the text and image content ready to be tweaked, rather than it being initially entered by the client. This fast-tracked the Outta Space beta testing and launch process.

Check out the site (on your mobile or desktop) and if you are looking for storage in South Australia give them a call or zip them an email.

We decided that this site called for Pandan LaunchCake to align with the green themed site. Pandan chiffon cake is made with the pandan leaf essence in a sponge cake. If you are in Perth and want to taste this bright green sponge cake (no food colouring added!) call Eve on 0400603340 or email chiffon.pandan@gmail.com… it’s worth a try and the team here loved it.

Zippity Zap on my electric wheels in heels!

For the last month or so, some of our starfishes have been helping Zap Electric Vehicles to spread the word on how awesome electric bikes are and how they are perfect for us Perthites. ‘Zap‘ felt a great way was to get people up and out on bikes for free…which is a great idea and they are doing this via their Facebook page! After chatting with the crew there I *sort of definitely* pestered my way into being a test-rider for a few days and they graciously let me.

I own a mountain bike, so two wheels is not a new concept for me – and I would ride it to work if it was ‘dress-friendly’ but unfortunately wardrobe issues and sweating has put me off. Amazingly, the ZAP bike negates both these problems. The bike that they chose for me has a graceful ‘old-school’ bar for ladylike mounting/dismounting and does most of the pedalling for me so hence, no sweat! I love it and it is actually 10 minutes quicker than the bus and $27 cheaper a day than driving (not including petrol!). I am seriously considering buying one.

I’m thinking of hooking up some video action for tomorrow… just so you can see how awesome the bike is too. What do you reckon and yes, that is a cake in the back. You don’t think I would consider riding/driving something that would not be cake-friendly do you? Happy Birthday Jayde!

The website is supported by a radio campaign that will air on Mix FM from next week. We hear the jingle is very catchy so will be keeping an ear out for it. The launch cake for this was a delightful purple and red berry cheesecake to complement the brand colours! We enjoyed it in our delightful new home at King Street….. You should pop down for a coffee some time.
