Force Technology Launches Vibrant New Website With Second Breakfast

Force Technology International is one of the biggest distributors of mobile accessories in Australia, supplying brands like Jawbone, Lifeproof, Kensington and Mossimo to retailers including Telstra, Optus, Virgin and JB Hi-Fi.

Having evolved their business and culture over the last 10 years, their website did not match the company they had become and was in need of redeveloping to bring it up to date.

The new site is cleaner and more colourful, with a site structure that makes it much easier to find out about the company, their brands and places to buy products.

And for LaunchCake? 10am on a Monday is a bit too early for cake (even for us) so we opted for LaunchBake with a selection of treats from New Norcia bakery.

HMS Popup Launches Retro Rumble With Double Crumble

The Retro Rumble is a two day festival of all things retro, with 11 soul, R&B, 60’s garage, rockabilly, blues and swing bands facing off against each other for Rumble in the Underground and a free public event with more bands, markets, food stalls, popup wine bars, fashion shows and plenty more goings on.

To complement traditional print promotional materials, we created a website with a poster look to it, but with more interactivity so that each band’s profile can be viewed. The result is this bold, bright and energetic responsive website. The really impressive part—if you’re part-nerd like us—is that the band lineup and event details are all editable in WordPress, and get automagically fitted into the list thanks to some fancy coding by devmaster Kieran.

The Retro Rumble

Even though I had nothing to do with the project, on behalf of ryhme-lovers everywhere I declared that the Launchcake for Rumble must be Apple Crumble. To match the colour themes for the two events, we ended up having double crumble; one with rhubarb, one with blueberries. It just felt right.

Rise Network Adds New Media Hub to Site

Rise Network is a not-for-profit organisation that began in 1983 serving elderly residents of their local hills community. Today, they are a key provider of support and services in the aged care, disability, youth and mental health sectors. We launched their new site in October last year (see blog here!) and since then there has been a 600% increase in traffic to the site.

With an active blog, social media presence and staff regularly featured in the media, they needed an area to collect all these presences and content for years to come. They wanted it to be easy to find and easy to use.

The new media hub lets Rise to link to their social media profiles, post print and digital media mentions along with the source article, as well as media releases and important documents. Mentions, releases and corporate documents each have their own archive which will allow people to follow Rise’s history in retrospect.

Check it out here and let us know what you think on our Twitter or Facebook!

Carpets and Floors At Yours Customers Floored by Extraordinary New Website

carpetsfloors_thumb

Finding the perfect flooring can be a lengthy process.

Carpets and Floors at Yours know this and recently launched an online catalogue that allows users to build a quote online and have their chosen samples delivered to their home to inspect.

The website provides an extensive catalogue of flooring including carpet, vinyl, laminate, timber and bamboo. The products are all very detailed with a visual sample and pictures of the flooring in offices and homes. Each product shown includes specifications, warranty information and even instructions on how to install the flooring yourself!

carpetsandfloors2_home_final

Products can be shortlisted by adding them to your favourites list and from there you can enter in the amount of flooring required for each room to create a price estimate yourself. If you are still unsure of the products you have selected and need to see them, you can book a physical van to come straight to your doorstep with the samples you have added to your virtual van on the website. Convenient? We think so!

carpetsandfloors2_listing_final

Carpets and Floors at Yours is a very unique flooring business in Perth. They launched their first fleet of mobile flooring showrooms in August 2012. They saw an opportunity in the market to provide an at-home service for the residential and commercial markets. Each mobile showroom carries over 800 samples of carpet, laminate, vinyl, timber, bamboo and underlay for viewing.

Given they only have mobile van ‘showrooms’ and no physical store, Carpets and Floors needed a way to showcase their products to potential customers, so having an online catalogue made sense. The interactive website compliments their on-location service, by allowing customers to browse their products whenever they want.

So next time you are looking for flooring for your home or office and don’t have the time to go out to several stores to find ‘the one’, browse online at carpetsatyours.com.au and book a mobile showroom to come to you!

Big Sky Entertainment WA – Looks a million dollars!

Big Sky Entertainment WA, a leading Western Australian entertainment booking agency, required a rejuvenated website. When I look back at this project I am reminded of the Million Dollar Makeover car that I’ve seen driving around town lately. Just look at the website’s before and after shots.

The website was originally designed by Clever Starfish in 2010 and required a fresh new look after 3 years. We focused on simplifying the content to clearly communicate Big Sky’s core business, events, and encourage more enquiries by restructuring the entertainment pages. Rachel improved the general appearance of the website and went to town on the home page with a classy looking banner manager and feature areas.

Uli also transformed the original Tentacle catalogue by creating some great filters, which make it so easy for clients to find the perfect act for any event.

We celebrated this launch with a delicious and suitably Orange cake from the Pearl of Highgate. OMG, this was so moist!

Perth Theatre Company Debuts New Responsive Website

Perth Theatre Company has been part of the Perth arts scene since 1983, taking up residence at the State Theatre Centre in 2010. Their old WordPress site was in need of an overhaul to accomodate an increasing amount of content in a way that was easy to manage. We created a whole new responsive design for the website and customised pages with flexible content areas and many custom fields to keep the layout of show details consistent. The changes were dramatic, resulting in a site that is not only easier to update, but allows for more flexiblity in the way content areas are used.

The home page features a dynamic banner area, automatic preview of the latest blog post, newsletter signup field, Facebook feed and two static feature areas for promotions.

The pages for shows use flexible content blocks with two size options, allowing a number of eye-catching previews to be set up with ease.

The blog offers glimpses behind the scenes of PTC productions and all the latest news from the company.

Our somewhat metaphorical LaunchCake was an apple and blueberry strudel from Corica Pastries. Like a good theatre show, strudel is complex and has several layers, leaving the consumer with a sense of fullness afterwards. (This is less than 1/3 of the strudel…the whole thing was so long it wouldn’t fit on our cake stand!)

A Truffle-infused One Page Site

We’re pretty into food here in Starfishland, so when The Black Truffle contacted us about doing a new website for their gourmet delicatessen in North Fremantle, we were keen as honey basil mustard. The store has become a regular destination for locals and passers-by, with fresh coffee, lunchables, Italian pantry staples, salads, antipasto, cured meats, cheeses, and take-home meals prepared by real Italian mamas. The rustic food aesthetic was carried through to the website design, with warm tones, wood and hessian textures, contrasted with the simple black and white of their logo.

blacktruffle-top

The site uses a ‘one page’ layout, which requires some tricky development techniques in order to be optimised for search engines as well as be easily editable in the WordPress content management system. While appearing as one long page in the browser, each section is actually a separate page in the eyes of search engines.

The catering section includes an inquiry form that gets submitted seamlessly without reloading the page.

A Seriously Bold Design for Richard Timpson Solicitors and Migration Agents

Lawyers are, by nature, serious professionals. We’re fortunate to work with Richard Timpson Solicitors and Migration Agents, who break all legal stereotypes and originally began working with Clever Starfish due to a shared interest in heavy metal. Yes, I do mean heavy metal music!

Richard Timpson asked us to design an innovative website that promoted the company’s new business focus as an immigration law specialist.

Richard Timpson website design

We developed a bold new look and feel that reflects Richard Timpson’s personality. The new website features a responsive design and horizontal scrolling. The website also includes a blog, which will be regularly updated to encourage new business and better content relevancy for SEO rankings.

It didn’t take long to find a suitable launch cake theme, orange was the obvious choice!

Taking The Lift Effect Website to New Heights

A new website should be something to get excited about right? Unfortunately, for Clare Goodman her recent website experience was far from exciting. Clare’s website conveyed messages of a friendly self help and personal development business. For anyone familiar with The Lift Effect, they’ll tell you it is anything but; The Lift Effect provides blue chip clients with challenging corporate programmes that build successful leaders. Needless to say the website was all wrong.

We sat down with Clare and immediately began to evaluate and reshape the website – mostly through simple content changes using WordPress. Gone were the niceties of self help and personal development. These were replaced with a focus on key words like leadership, neuroscience and cognitive strategies.

After our meeting, we spent our time redesigning the skin of the website. This sounds like a big task but it’s amazing what can be achieved by changing a few colours and fonts here and there.

Left Effect website redesign

We then focused our energy on a key issue – the home page. By simply removing Clare’s photo from the banner we created a stronger corporate presence using bold iconography and a new dominant colour palette. We identified that the website didn’t communicate The Lift Effect’s services in our initial meeting. This issue was resolved by designing an eye-catching Services panel that clearly summarises the programmes available.

Lift Effect website design refresh

It all sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? That’s because it was. This was a fantastic project, which the whole team enjoyed (Clare and Starfish included). Not only did we reshape a misguided website into something great but we also totally transformed Clare’s approach to her website. She now feels a sense of pride, ownership and that all important excitement when a website goes live.

This is a perfect example of how a bit of listening and strategic thinking really can go a long way – see we’re not just a pretty face!

As part of the team, we invited Clare in to share in our excitement. Launch cake time!

Asia Through the Lens of Stewart & Murphy

Over the last few years we’ve created portfolio websites for many fantastic photographers, but when we saw Ray Stewart and Daniel Murphy’s work from South-East Asia, we were seriously impressed.

The simple dark design lets their vibrant urban and natural landscape images take visual precedence, and the room view feature gives visitors an idea of how the prints would look in a lounge or foyer.

stewartmurphy-listing

Often we’ll try and match our LaunchCake to the project in some way. Sometimes it’s a clear association with the design or content. Sometimes the link is more obscure. Sometimes we just feel like ice cream cake. If you were trying to find the opposite-cake for Stewart & Murphy’s website, this is probably it!

Ormina Tours launches online holding page for offline adventures

Ormina Tours is releasing a new range of luxury European travel itineraries and wanted a simple website to introduce visitors to their brand, plus let them find out more about their upcoming tours. This WordPress-powered holding page gives them the ability to display enticing imagery and several tour brochures along with text content.

Venice, anyone?

Ormina Tours holding page screenshot

Given the amazing European destinations Ormina has in store for their guests, LaunchCake was a selection of pastries and baked goods from French patisserie Jean Pierre Sancho. The chocolate gateau was easily the most popular item, with it’s crunchy base and mousse-like top section earning it more than a few return spoonfuls.
