‘Top Emerging Photographer’ nomination for Alex Cearns

We love to hear about the successes of our clients – and so we were thrilled to hear that pet photographer Alex Cearns of Houndstooth Studio has been nominated in the Australia’s Top Emerging Photographer 2010 competition.

The awards are peer voted, and the results will be available later this month on the awards programme web site. Alex is the only pet photographer in the portrait category, and we wish her the very best of luck!

Houndstooth Studio launches

A gorgeous new site that launched in the pre-Christmas rush is North Perth-based photographers Houndstooth Studio. Alex Cearns, owner of Houndstooth, is a multi-award-winning animal photographer and it’s easy to see why: the site’s gallery is overflowing with beautiful photos of our furred and feathered friends – and also some more unusual pets and wildlife – each cuter than the last!

The Houndstooth site uses WordPress to manage the content and news, and our own Tentacle system to manage the galleries. Fully branded email newsletters are sent to site subscribers using the Starfish Send system.

Houndstooth is the latest in quite a long line of photography web sites that Clever Starfish has done – and there are more coming in 2010, so stay tuned!

Gorgeous animal photos at Zoo Studio

Clever Starfish has had a long association with photographer Ken Drake – Ken’s original Starfish-designed web site took out the Small Business category in the 2007 WA Web Awards.

His new venture Zoo Studio highlights his new direction, pet photography. Ken takes amazing photos of cats, dogs, rabbits (and the occasional bird) – and the results, coupled with beautiful finishing and framing, are truly works of art.

For the new site, Ken wanted to use big images (and lots of them!) to really capture the quality of his work. We built a custom gallery application to show off the photos, with a management system to allow Ken to update the gallery whenever required.

The next step will be to send the Starfish cats off for their very own glamour shoot!
