Marketforce freshen the Decmil brand: new responsive WordPress site goes live

In another collaboration with Marketforce, we are proud to launch the Decmil Australia website.

decmil_home

Decmil Australia has delivered specialist building and civil construction services to the oil, gas and resources industries for more than 30 years. As part of the wider Decmil Group Limited, their long held reputation is built on sound, professional and trusted relationships with their clients.

They commissioned Marketforce to freshen up their well-established brand a year ago. At the same time they noted that the website needed to be brought up to the same level. Our team met with the Marketforce designers, planners and account managers and went through the already completed print resources as well as the print style guides.

The final decision was made that they wanted to go with a fully responsive site that showcased the new colour palette and fonts.

This website has some fabulous features in WordPress including;

  •  Responsive banner managers: The home and landing pages all feature banner managers where photos, text and links can be added by the client in a heartbeat. As long as the heart of the image is centralised – the whole banner will shrink and display appropriately on a tablet or smartphone. Check it out by grabbing the corner of the browser and shrinking the window.
  • Landing page templates: The website features dedicated landing page templates that allow the addition of feature boxes to promote pages within. This makes the site far easier to navigate, particularly when coupled with drop down navigation.
  • Blog: Although on the outset, a blog doesn’t seem to be a fabulous feature but in our experience it is one of the most vital parts of any website. After all, here you are reading ours.
  • Flexible content modules: In cases where you are dealing with designing and building a site with less than 30% of the content, flexible content modules are a saving grace. We had the responsibility of adding in the content for the first level pages and the rest was completed by Marketforce and the team at Decmil. Without allowing some flexibility, it is pretty easy for bumps in the road to lead to delays – particularly as content is the key to this website.

We celebrated this launch with a delighfully simple chocolate cake. Jayde, the lead on this project was in Melbourne and skyped in for LaunchCake but was unable to cut the cake long distance so our very talented designer, Trevor – cut the cake!

Christian Fletcher Launches New Look Responsive Website

Last year our team took a trip down south to say hello to the Fletcher team in their Dunsborough gallery after spending months on the phone. We felt it was about time we met in person! We already had a really appreciation of the beautiful photographic work of Christian Fletcher as it was great to be greeted so warmly in their stunning gallery.

Christian Fletcher’s original site was one of the earliest Tentacle stores. When we met with them we realised that they were beginning to grow out of the current version and wanted to take their online presence to the next level.

Christian Fletcher’s original site

Pretty quickly we got onto how we could look at improving the current site and it was pretty clear that they truly are innovators and love to lead the way. After the trip our team chatted about how we could address their needs and enable them to steer their business on a daily basis without us having to rely on us. They wanted control and we wanted to be able to give that to them.

We really do appreciate that they also let us run with some exciting features that we hope will make their site even easier to browse or buy a ‘Christian Fletcher’ that suits you.

All of these changes were not made lightly or at a whim. Our team spent a long time reviewing the popular sections of the site, listened to feedback from their team and other photographers who work closely with them. We didn’t want to make ‘change for change’s sake’ and hope that this is reflected in the new look.

Probably the biggest noticeable cosmetic change is that the site is now responsive, enabling purchasing, browsing and blog reading on the go. Visitors can also save their favourite images to the Wishlist and purchase from both the photography store and the gift store.

The site is not just about selling though and special care has been taken to consider first and foremost those who want to view images and read the latest happenings in the life of Christian Fletcher.

We will revisit this site in future blogs to explain further features including; gift vouchers, product pickup, room-view, coupons and how we approach responsive sites.

Check out their site at http://www.christianfletcher.com.au or pop into one of their galleries in Dunsborough, Margaret River or Mandurah.

tutti frutti launches delicious new site

It was over year ago when I first tried the delicious creations from the ‘new kid on the block in Leederville’ that is now a regular staple in my life. From the first free tasting (thanks Joel!) I was hooked… and from this ‘love’, the beginning of a lovely relationship has bloomed between Tutti Frutti and Clever Starfish.

We have helped them with their Facebook from the beginning (because we know what we want to hear and see as fans!) and have been privy to the big vision that Kathy Metaxas has for the American-born business that has been taking the world by storm.

This website one was a fun one to build and the whole Starfish team played a role in it. Of course, it is a responsive design. That means that you can fit it in your pocket and even check in on FourSquare from the mobile site.

The Leederville store is only the beginning of the exciting Tutti Frutti story unfolding… as today we launch not only their website but also the chance for West Australians to own their own Tutti Frutti shop of their own! I wish we could open one ourselves but alas, no websites would be made as we would be too busy eating straight from the taps and serving crowds of customers!

I would have to say, the biggest challenge of this site was that it induced Tutti Frutti cravings every time we spent more than a few hours in a row on it! This is seriously what happened every time someone tried to sneak off for a fix.

To celebrate the website launch, we are getting ready to eat a delicious fruit tart….

We would have eaten Tutti Frutti in celebration but we had it yesterday when we made the 404 error page. Now THAT was fun!

New Sophie Kyron site goes mobile

We are excited to announce the relaunch the new look Sophie Kyron site. Of course, with our love of responsiveness – we felt it was imperative to get this site optimised to work on tablets and phones, as you can see below.

This website features an upgraded Tentacle for the online store component  (the site won the Australian Web Awards for the old site) complete with inbuilt voucher generators and sales modules. It also seamlessly connects to StarfishSend to easily manage subscriptions and e-newsletters.

Special thanks to Milkable, who designed the new logo and took fabulous photos for their products under the guidance of Jayde here at CS HQ.

sites that work across all devices

According to Michael Walton from Nielsen Pacific, half the phones in Australia are now smart phones. For people under 34, 7 out of 10 use smart phones. Within a year it is expected that 2 out of 3 people will be using smart phones.

It is fact that smart phones really are changing the way people are accessing information and websites. To see how we are ensuring our clients are ahead of the curve ball, visit the responsive section of our projects page. To get an understanding of what responsive design is, go here.

We promised our fabulous client/friend/social guru/roving blogger for the week, Joe Millward, who is over at SXSW that we would make him a video demonstrating responsive design. Here you go, man… We hope it helps to prevent losing your voice by the end of the conference.

a client says “we need a mobile site!” and the starfish replies “we agree!”

We are getting asked more and more about developing sites suitable for mobiles, which is fantastic! Did you know that is doesn’t have to be its own dedicated site these days?

I have worked in digital since a phone was quite a large bricky Nokia that had a one-colour screen. I remember when viewing a website on a phone would have been laughable and impossible. I also remember when mobile sites started to take off and clients needed to create a second version that required all the content to be edited separately to your regular site.

It would have been about a year ago when I was discussing this problem with a very talented designer/developer hybrid friend…  He showed me a site that shrunk to fit the screen size – folding down as you pulled the corner in. It was very exciting and spurred the “we can do that too!”… and we did!

About 7 months ago we teamed up with our open-minded client, Wild Lily Empire, and went on the journey of designing and developing what we call a “responsive” website. We build them with WordPress and e-commerce capabilities.

We haven’t looked back since. Yep, even our site is responsive … Pull the right hand corner in to check it out.

Do you want a mobile site?

Sophie Kyron’s new site: Sneak Peek

Sophie approached us today to give her Facebook fans a sneak peek of her website currently in development. How could we refuse when we’re just as excited as they are are about this new look!

We are very proud to be offered the chance to rejuvenate a site that we originally launched in 2008. You can check out our original blog here.

One of the most exciting things about the new design is that is is a responsive design. In essence, this means that the website has inbuilt smarts and actually optimizes itself for the screen you are using. Gone are the days of squinting at your smartphone on the train or at the beach.

The site still uses a combination of WordPress and our very own Tentacle, as it did back in 2008 – but these have just been tweaked and upgraded. We have also added a spoonful of social so that you can let us know what you are loving and sharing with your friends. There are more surprises too, but we don’t want to reveal everything!

The upcoming range is just getting added to the new site. Here are some snaps on our iPhone as we took the product photos. Let’s hope Sophie doesn’t mind us sharing those with you too! To be the first to know when the new site is up be sure to sign up for the newsletter on her current site.

For those of you who aren’t on her Facebook, you can find it here.

Ok, so we look sorta different… but don’t you think it was time we matched the outside to the inside?

Our new site features the latest projects we have launched with details included for the features that are not always possible to showcase from the front-end. It is a responsive design that morphs to fit a PC, tablet or phone.

Our blog will continue to feature articles on the most-asked questions we get and projects will be featured as we launch them to showcase the amazing clients we get to work with every day.
