One of the great things about being a small team is that we get to work on interesting and fun projects! Billy’s Day Care for Dogs definitely fits into this classification.
Day care centres for dogs, where people can leave their beloved pets to be cared for and exercised while they are at work, are quite common in the USA but a relatively new concept in Australia. Rebecca Vary wanted to run the kind of facility where she would be comfortable leaving her own canine friend – a cage-free, clean and safe environment where dogs can play and relax with others under the supervision of people who really know dogs.
Rebecca needed a web site that would be easy to update which would give potential clients a good overview of what dog day care is all about – and that’s where Clever Starfish came in. We created a site with a fun, informal feel (and lots of puppy photos) which Rebecca can update herself using Adobe Contribute.
After a long application and appeals process with the council, Billy’s Day Care for Dogs is now open for business in Belmont. We wish Rebecca and Pokey (pictured above) the very best in their new business.

The latest Clever Starfish creation to go live is a colourful site for the very talented people at Creative Quilting Services.
Dan and Jo Northcott wanted to offer a range of threads and fabrics for sale direct to the public, as well as showcase the quilting services they offer with the help of “Barb”, the room-sized quilting machine (check the about page for a link to a photo of Barb).
The site features a shopping cart with secure online credit card purchase. The products and news are managed by Dan and Jo in an online administration area.

Whew, we’re back!
Due to a denial of service attack on our US-based web host, the Clever Starfish web site was unavailable for 24 hours from Sunday evening. Fortunately, none of our US-hosted client web sites were affected, as they reside on a separate machine at the facility.
Over the past few weeks we have been in the process of moving all of our clients to Fasthit, a local hosting company. Fasthit has excellent pricing, fast servers and great support response times as well as a complete range of accounts (both Windows and Linux), and we’ve been really happy so far with the accounts that have already moved. After this latest issue, we will be speeding up the migration process to get all our clients sites and our own sites over to the new system.
You can’t beat picking up the phone and talking to a system administrator in your own timezone!
