A Seriously Bold Design for Richard Timpson Solicitors and Migration Agents

Lawyers are, by nature, serious professionals. We’re fortunate to work with Richard Timpson Solicitors and Migration Agents, who break all legal stereotypes and originally began working with Clever Starfish due to a shared interest in heavy metal. Yes, I do mean heavy metal music!

Richard Timpson asked us to design an innovative website that promoted the company’s new business focus as an immigration law specialist.

Richard Timpson website design

We developed a bold new look and feel that reflects Richard Timpson’s personality. The new website features a responsive design and horizontal scrolling. The website also includes a blog, which will be regularly updated to encourage new business and better content relevancy for SEO rankings.

It didn’t take long to find a suitable launch cake theme, orange was the obvious choice!

Fresh New Look Responsive site goes live for Barclays Building Services

We are excited to announce the launch of the fresh-look Barclays Building Services (BBS) WordPress website, which has been brightened up with fresh new content and now supports mobile devices. BBS has been a client for four years and whilst their old site was still in working order, it needed to be matched to the latest marketing materials that were created by the talented bunch at Milkable.

The family-owned business was established more than 25 years ago and provides high quality building services to insurance and loss adjusters around Western Australia covering the following regions:

  • Busselton – Southwest Region
  • Kalgoolie – Goldfields-Esperance Region
  • Geraldton – Midwest Region
  • Karratha – Pilbara Region

Barclay's responsive website

They have experienced substantial growth in the last few years (in team and coverage) and wanted to be able to source new suppliers to work with and therefore needed the site to be able to streamline this process. Suppliers can now submit their expressions of interest online. The site also features a gallery so that new and existing clients can see examples of work Barclays Building Services has completed.

To celebrate the launch of the new site, we munched on a delightful selection of treats from the David Jones’ food court.

Asia Through the Lens of Stewart & Murphy

Over the last few years we’ve created portfolio websites for many fantastic photographers, but when we saw Ray Stewart and Daniel Murphy’s work from South-East Asia, we were seriously impressed.

The simple dark design lets their vibrant urban and natural landscape images take visual precedence, and the room view feature gives visitors an idea of how the prints would look in a lounge or foyer.

Often we’ll try and match our LaunchCake to the project in some way. Sometimes it’s a clear association with the design or content. Sometimes the link is more obscure. Sometimes we just feel like ice cream cake. If you were trying to find the opposite-cake for Stewart & Murphy’s website, this is probably it!

Hullabaloo Swings Into Action!

We love supporting like minded people and communities who help Perth grow. Hullabaloo is no exception. This energetic annual swing dance festival draws hundreds of people from around the world to a 5 day festival celebrating  jazz music and dance from the 1930s and 40s. 2013 sees the tenth Hullabaloo Perth Lindy Exchange.

Hullabaloo_logo_Trevor_Annalise

Fellow Clever Starfish and local swing dancing legend Trevor Hutchison has regularly volunteered his time to design and build the annual Hullabaloo website. This year Trevor took things to a new level and designed and built an amazing responsive WordPress website which folds down to suit mobile phone screens without compromising it’s beautiful typographical style.

Like any event based website, ticketing is a crucial component. In order to help Hullabaloo with this year’s ticketing, we were asked to develop a custom ticketing system which could manage the complexities of a dance festival without being difficult to operate and worked with WordPress. The system needed to do the most basic transactions, selling tickets to events BUT it also needed the ability to package groups of events for a discounted cost (passes), manage and balance workshop numbers according to lead and follower dancers, capture accommodation options for out-of-town visitors who need accommodation and sell festival products like a shop. All this wrapped up with one management and reporting console. Sheesh! Luckily we were up to the challenge.

With the aid of our oldest programming Starfish, Dave Ridgway, the result was a custom Tentacle based ticketing system which neatly integrated the WordPress site’s responsive styles.

We’re very proud of this ticketing system and also proud to support the 2013 Hullabaloo Perth Lindy Exchange.

Ormina Tours launches online holding page for offline adventures

Ormina Tours is releasing a new range of luxury European travel itineraries and wanted a simple website to introduce visitors to their brand, plus let them find out more about their upcoming tours. This WordPress-powered holding page gives them the ability to display enticing imagery and several tour brochures along with text content.

Venice, anyone?

Ormina Tours holding page screenshot

Given the amazing European destinations Ormina has in store for their guests, LaunchCake was a selection of pastries and baked goods from French patisserie Jean Pierre Sancho. The chocolate gateau was easily the most popular item, with it’s crunchy base and mousse-like top section earning it more than a few return spoonfuls.

Mondolaunche Quattro!

Last week was high-end lighting supplier Mondoluce’s 18th birthday, and to celebrate they not only threw a party, but launched three new brands and websites plus a dedicated blog.

Mondoluce Metalight Mialuce brand sites

Beautiful and functional—just the way it should be

We worked closely with Mondoluce’s branding partner The Globe, establishing a site architecture and browsing experience that would allow users to find lighting fixtures by usage, brand, product and project type. From the industry audience feedback we’ve received, this functionality—combined with The Globe’s slick design—has made their task of sourcing lighting a whole lot easier!

Una grande famiglia

Mondoluce now has three distinct brands in their family; Mondoluce, Metalight, and Mialuce. The three brand sites and Illuminati blog are all separate domains, but are conveniently managed together using WordPress Multisite and a custom Tentacle catalogue system.

Tentacle handles brands, products, projects, downloads and filtering options, ensuring content is always displayed neatly and consistently. Everything is managed from the one interface, and can be set to show on any of the three brand sites.

Effortlessly fresh

With the exception of the featured banner images, everything you see on each home page is generated automatically from product, project, news and brand content, meaning minimal effort is required to keep it looking fresh.

LaunchCake is yet to be eaten on this one because we were too busy eating tapas at the LaunchParty to plan it! Watch this space for a followup blog…

Ferrum Consultants launches rejuvenated website

Established in 2007, Ferrum Consultants is a specialist consultancy that deliver commercial, technical and market expertise to the iron ore and ferrous metallics industries. The head office is based in Perth, Western Australia and the small, multi-disciplinary team also have offices in the east coast of Australia.

The key issues with their previous site was that they were unable to edit the content and the original design restricted some other elements, so we re-designed the look and feel and built a new WordPress website which highlighted the expanding services.  The new site had a dedicated page for their Masterclass service, as well as adding a link to their Linkedin page – that we recommended they set up to launch alongside the rejuvenated site.

ferrum-home

Ferrum Consultants wanted to refresh their original site design with something that presented their current business nature – professional but approachable. This was achieved by updating the initial bright blue colour template to a fresh white and deeper blue used predominantly in the footer of the site. The logo had a lot of history attached to it and thus the interlocking shapes was a major feature throughout the design.

Ferrum Consultants offer a wide range of services and provide strategic advice using their vast expertise in the industry. They have over 150 years of combined Australian and international experience. We collaborated with the The Write Business a professional writing company who provided a copywriting service and assisted Ferrum Consultants with content entry. We had a great team throughout the process and were able to work together to achieve a common goal. The directors Dan and Warren joined our team to celebrate the launch and enjoyed a cup of tea and LaunchCake!

3…2…1…Lift off for Outta Space!

Outta Space is a self storage company located in Murray Bridge, South Australia. They have been operating for over 3 years and decided that it was time to have a online presence. Although we are based in a different state they were happy to work with us over email, Skype, DropBox and the phone to create a website that was “out of this world” (pun intended!).

Together we decided that a WordPress site was the perfect solution for their needs and we set our sights on creating a design to match their professional and approachable team.

Whilst they decided a fully responsive site was not necessary for them at this time, they still wanted their site to work on a phone, so we created them a site that re-sizes nicely to fit a portrait mobile layout.

The alien spaceship was a cute way for our starfishes to have a bit of fun with the design and programming on the home page and the 404 error page ! We love brands with character…

After we completed the design, they decided to also outsource their content entry to us too. This is a useful option for clients who would like a little help to reach a specific launch deadline. The test site was then delivered with all the text and image content ready to be tweaked, rather than it being initially entered by the client. This fast-tracked the Outta Space beta testing and launch process.

Check out the site (on your mobile or desktop) and if you are looking for storage in South Australia give them a call or zip them an email.

We decided that this site called for Pandan LaunchCake to align with the green themed site. Pandan chiffon cake is made with the pandan leaf essence in a sponge cake. If you are in Perth and want to taste this bright green sponge cake (no food colouring added!) call Eve on 0400603340 or email chiffon.pandan@gmail.com… it’s worth a try and the team here loved it.

Back it up starfishes—it’s another fresh launch!

Fresh Backup is the latest offering on Fresh Look IT’s Fresh Cloud service, and it’s so special that it gets its own landing page. If we’re going to get technical (which we love to do, of course) this is really a landing site—it’s powered by WordPress, with custom content sections so that the headings, text, product images and features can all be edited super easily. This is another collaboration with our stylish friends at The Globe, who created the awesome brand identity and design you see here.

Fresh Backup

Often we’ll try and get a themed LaunchCake to celebrate the site we’ve just launched, and as of last month we’ve expanded our tradition to incorporate ‘LiquidLaunchCake’. In this case, freshness was most definitely taken care of by these colour coordinated fruit smoothies from Java Juice. (Except for that white one…how did that get in there??)

A Fresh Looking Holding Page

Fresh Look IT have a solid history and well established client base, and are getting a brand identity makeover by our good friends at The Globe that is going to make them stand out from their competitors. While their full website is being created, this holding page (designed by The Globe) introduces the new branding and gives a web presence with a way to keep in touch. They’re certainly challenging the branding status quo in the professional IT services sector, and their new look is really…well, fresh.

landing_freshlook

Since we launched the holding page on the same day as Achievement Matters and The Globe, we decided having three LaunchCakes was a little bit ridiculous—even for us. To solve this problem, we came up with a variation on the LaunchCake concept.

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you…LaunchShake!
