Media140, a good topic for my first blog.

Hi All, this is my first foray into the blogosphere. Please be nice. Then again…. At Media140 last week I was taught to stick my neck out; put myself on the line. I should say what I’m thinking, even if that leads to repercussions like people disowning me online, apparently that’s okay. It just makes your blogs richer and more insightful.

Highlights of the event for me were:

  • Kristen Vang from Hatchd doing Let’s Get Phygital! This was an engaging presentation on how to be more engaging.
  • Michael Walton from Nielsen was likewise very entertaining and interesting. Who knew stats could be fun. Where were you during my uni days Mike?
  • We also had the pleasure of hearing the Social Media insights of Venessa Paech with her down to earth genius, over both Thursday and Friday.
  • Miles Burke’s 37 hints and tips for the digital entrepreneur was a nice way to cap off the second days presentations.

Over the coming weeks we will be posting a little bit more detail on how we have been able to use some of the interesting things we have learnt at Media140.

Media140 – Day 2

Day two of Media140 seems a little more relaxed than the first, as you can see, and a little more focused towards individuals as brands.

As we love to work with so many owner-operators, we felt it was really important to attend and hear what the experts had to say about making your personal brand stand out from the crowd.

More updates to come on what the experts had to say soon…

sites that work across all devices

According to Michael Walton from Nielsen Pacific, half the phones in Australia are now smart phones. For people under 34, 7 out of 10 use smart phones. Within a year it is expected that 2 out of 3 people will be using smart phones.

It is fact that smart phones really are changing the way people are accessing information and websites. To see how we are ensuring our clients are ahead of the curve ball, visit the responsive section of our projects page. To get an understanding of what responsive design is, go here.

We will be updating you with some of the most interesting resources presented via our Twitter but will do our best to keep you up to date on the blog too.

For the love of photo shoots…

We are lucky to have clients that allow us to be creative. Improvement Resources is no exception! The team, run by Sarah Coleman and Stephen Leach are dynamic and at the top of their game in the industry. We wanted to show that they are not like their competitors and what better way to do this than with pictures?

Who doesn’t love a photo shoot?

…and who can resist playing around in a massive white studio once you’re done?

Photographers and Pinterest: To pin or not to pin?

Pinterest is the new kid on the block in the world of social content sharing and has been rising in popularity at an impressive rate. We have been working with many of our clients to make ‘pinning things’ easy for people who are on Pinterest. It seems to be a fabulous tool for clients offering products for sale or hire.

Last week we were looking to add ‘pin it’ to one of our landscape photography clients’ images when Gregory from our office shared an article about their Terms and Conditions – which could be quite concerning for photographers and artists in particular. In short, it seems that by allowing people to pin your images you are adhering to their T&Cs that give them the right to use your images in ways that you would probably deem inappropriate.

We will keep you in the loop on any further information we are able to find.
