A new site for all your Fit Bits

Tracey Fudge is a busy personal trainer – and she knows her clients are busy people too. That’s why she wanted to make booking personal and group sessions as simple as possible.

That’s where Clever Starfish came in. Tracey’s new site is friendly, clear and easy to understand and provides lots of helpful health and fitness information. But the big features are Tracey’s session timetable and easy online bookings, which make seeing which days and times are available and getting your booking in (or cancelling it, if necessary) a matter of mere clicks.

Fit Bits has launched just in time for everyone’s summer fitness and new year’s resolutions – so if you’re in Perth and would like to tone up or slim down, it might be time to check out Tracey’s site.

Clean, simple site for clever new product

Last week, Clever Starfish launched a simple site for a new product of a type that you might not have ever thought about – but to certain industries, it’s a revolution. Speciiflex is a new type of specimen container for the medical market. It features a unique collapsible handle, which makes it easier and more hygienic to use. So simple, yet so clever!

The people behind this great new product wanted a simple, clean-looking site with product information, usage instructions and contact details. We built them a simple WordPress-managed site that puts them in control of content updates.

Speciiflex are currently at the Medica trade event in Dusseldorf, Germany – taking their Australian-designed product to the world market. We wish them every success.

Kathmandu Kids team: back from Nepal

A couple of months ago, Clever Starfish built a web site for long-time client Paul Cumming and a group of his friends who were embarking on a charity mission to Nepal. A whole bunch of Clever Starfish and our colleagues from Fasthit went along to their fundraising quiz night and had a lot of fun.

The good news is that the fundraising efforts well exceeded the target $15,000 – in fact, the Kathmandu Kids team was able to raise $25,000! They’re now back from their trip, and planning to make the drive an annual event to help those slum kids keep going to school.

From Paul:

We have just returned from a trip to Nepal to see the kids that were helped so much by your generosity. We visited The Sunrise Children’s Orphanage, The Kalimati Slums and the school that we have made it possible for these kids to attend.

It was a humbling experience to be welcomed into these places. It was especially rewarding to know that our quiz night has made it possible for their education to continue. We talked with Emma Taylor about strategies for the future and how the money raised can best be put to use. I am happy to say that we have made it a commitment to make the Kathmandu Kids Quiz Night a yearly event. Details for 2010 Quiz Night will be announce early next year. I will keep you informed!

Clever Starfish will continue to be involved and encourage anyone out there who might be able to lend a hand for next year’s event to contact Paul.

Starfish posts a Perth Racing trifecta

We’ve launched three new mini-sites for Perth Racing in the last few weeks – each more fun than the last.

Ultimate Railway Stakes is a simple site that allows patrons to enter a Carlton Draught competition to win VIP Hospitality at the Jimmy Barnes concert after the race programme. Entry codes are on cartons of Carlton Draught – but the historic Railway Stakes race day is on November 21 so there’s not much time left.

The Perth Cup is a long-standing New Year’s Day celebration in our city – and this year will be bigger and better than ever. The BMW 2010 Perth Cup mini-site is designed to give race-goers all the information they need about having a great day at the event, with a range of different entertainment packages available.

Finally, Super Stables is a Perth Racing’s new tipping competition and your chance to play stable owner. Choose your stable of five horses, then sit back and watch as the results come in each week from the Railway Stakes until the Perth Cup. 1st prize is a Race Day package worth $2500, and there’s tickets to the BMW 2010 Perth Cup being given away each week. Again, you have to get in quick – entries close at 12pm on Thursday the 19th of November.

We love working with the great team at Perth Racing, and look forward to launching more fun mini-sites and competitions in the future.

Clever Starfish take out Best Retail Site in Australian Web Awards

Last Friday night the winners of the Australian Web Awards were announced at a black tie dinner at the Novotel Hotel in Perth. Clever Starfish received top honours in the Retail category for Sophie Kyron Jewellery.

Design on this project was done by Levi, with front end development by Al and shopping cart integration – our own “Tentacle” product management and shopping system – by Dave.

We’d like to thank Sophie Kyron and her team for giving us great source materials to work with. Congratulations are due to all the winners – especially Equilibrium and WA Museum for their ‘Nick Cave – the exhibition’ site, which took out three categories and the Most Outstanding award.
